Controlled Burn Management

Prescribed burning is perhaps the most important tool in successfully managing restored ecosystems.  Because our native plant communities have evolved within a regime of fire, they depend upon regular burning to thrive.

Proper burn management can safely and effectively provide:

  • Control of invasive brush and annual weeds
  • Removal of spent vegetation and thatch
  • Increased native seed germination
  • Increased soil fertility
  • Reduction of hazardous fuel accumulation

CLS crews perform dozens of burns each season, in a wide variety of habitat types and settings.  Our burn crews bring years of experience and training to every job, including certification in fire behavior and logistics from the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG). We have the expertise and equipment to conduct prescribed burns of every scale - from backyard prairies to hundreds of acres of restored habitat.
